As part of the plan to revitalise the areas agriculture, the Philippi Fresh Produce Market was built with the specific goal of offering a convenient, well run facility that could provide a market facility to around 2,500 farmers. Philippi Fresh Produce Market provides an alternative to the well established Epping Market and provides a more central location to local farmers.
Value added processing is an important part of the development of the Philippi Fresh Produce Market and a custom facility, where produce is cleaned and processed for final delivery to supermarkets and retailers throughout the Cape has been built as part of the market. With close access to the International airport, produce can be prepared and packed for distribution throughout South Africa and the rest of the world.
